Yes. I've been interested in West Creek for some time -- I think. Aren't there 3 townships in south Lake Co. -- West Creek is the one on the west side. It seems like that the "oldest church in the county" is there, 185th & White Oak Ave. I got permission from the Owner?/Mgr of the guy in the old School bldg & worked the school yard in front -- didn't do any good. I'm thinking that school area is worth another look.
Also, doesn't the West Creek areas include that old cemetery at the corner of Hwy 2 & Calumet Ave? I've
worked that a bit -- again no luck.
Lately I've been thinking I'll work abandon pioneer cemeteries. I've always felt uncomfortable about working
"active" cemeteries. But if folks aren't still being buried there, then . . . why not?
I've been detecting with a guy who lives in the Lottaville area of Merrillville & attending meetings with him at a M.D. club in Joliet. He has now got me feeling VERY competitive about finding Barber coins like HE recently found.
Much of his greater success, I think, is his greater success in having his searchcoil over the right ground, rather than any particularly superior equipment or skill.
He's got a new Fishers.

Your 25 yrs detecting -- me only maybe 6-7-8 yrs. Betcha there's more to be learned by me from you, than vice versa.
But I think 2 heads together is more productive than those heads separately.
Being as I'm retired, I can "work" most any time. However I've been finding this 90 degree humidity very difficult to function in.

Yes!!!! that is what I use to do before I got married!!! on top of that I would research old towns in counties that I wanted to take drives through, looking for any abandoned properties and old parks, hopefully with all the old original equipment

Sorry for the last comment I sent you about my Pin Pointer. I told you about the one on my Detector. The Pin Pointer I use is called the "Vib-Probe Wizard. It is inexpensive and works well. It has an audibal signal and a vibrater as well as a light in it. It sells for about 39 dollars. The only problem I have had with it is the Tip cover came loose so I glued it back with some Gorrila Glue and it has worked fine every since. I would not dig without it since so mant finds appear close to the earth color. It saves time and effort looking for the item in the hole. There are better ones but they cost over one hundred dollars.

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner Jimmy! My wife was on Myspace on this computer all day! Also my wife is different than yours, mine thinks that metal detecting is childish and that I should throw my detector away and grow up!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah you are talking about the old school on the 500 block of Main next to the town hall, I use to live in a house that was next to Ameritech on the 300 block of Main, the Halstead house was to our left on the 200 block, all the property around the school on that rise is asphalt, except for the edges, I tried around the steps once, but a guy pulled up and told me to get the hell out of there! Bottlebum wants me to watch and see if anyone ever tears it out, then we're on it!!! We even jokingly said we were going to buy the old school just to rip the asphalt out and search the building for relics!

Thanks. White's XLT is what I own now, I prefer grass covered school grounds, which are hard to fine anymore.
